Jason Smith: Shape Shifter 1 1/2

18 Oct

Interjection, 24" x 26" by Jason Smith

Jason Smith’s show Shape Shifters 1 1/2; paintings of odd-shaped animals, portraits, political commentaries complete with severed heads, wacky backgrounds and a generous splash of Pepto-Bismol pink.

Since childhood Smith has drawn and painted with anything he could get his hands on. Smith’s art is rendered in his own “anomalous personal world.” His paintings are filled with bright vivid colors and patterns that allow every element to unconsciously express itself and interact subliminally. Smith’s figures and settings, go back to his childhood art. The frankness and childlike simplicity of the images lead the viewer into the painting, while allowing the viewer to be unencumbered by everyday imagery.

Jason attended the Herberger College of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona.
